I have a core 2 duo processor(1.8Ghz). Whenever I check my processor speed, it shows 1.2GHz. Can anybody please explain and solve this problem of lesser speed of processor than actually written.
Basically, when your computer is sitting idle it will underclock it self to save some energy.
As soon as you put a load on it, the CPU will jump to its rated speed.
I agree with leaving speedstep on, if your system needs more speed it will throttle up the processor. No use having it run at top clock speed when it's sitting idle.
but the speed shown by cpuz software is 1.2 GHz... even if I put a lot of load on the processor..
cpuz shows current speed, what are you doing on your computer right now? If your not gaming, or doing some cpu intensive tasks your cpu will basically be idle and thus remain at a downclocked low power state.
Run Prime95 then, while it is still running, check your CPUs speed.
If it still shows a 6x multiplier, post your full system specs and idle/load CPUz screen shots.
