Hi all,

I've got a Thinkpad 560x which I know takes
the standard 2.5 inch hard drive, in fact
an IBM tech support person told me the 4 gig
drive is 12.5mm thick. Anyway I am wondering
about other factors besides size that might
affect what kind of new drive I can put in
my 560x. My search has shown that new
drives often have an ATA100 interface which
surely the 560x does not have. Has anyone
tried putting a large e.g. 20-40 gig drive
in this system? I will probably use Linux
or Win98 with it.

Thanks.

I have 20GB in my 560x. Just make sure that you have the latest BIOS
update install. It can be downloaded from:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/ [...] RYRAK.html

Be careful not to break the bezel around the keyboard. It is very thin
along the side. Also, notice how the latch is assembled; so, you can
easily reassemble it. I'd recommend checking the Hardware Maintenance
Maunul before disassembling. I downloaded a copy from IBM at:

ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/560xhmm.pdf

Sorry, this does not work for me:

Here there is no "mobiles" inside of ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/

Actually it looks like there is nothing at all in this directory. :-(

That's because the server changed several months ago. Try:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcc [...] 60xhmm.pdf

That's now: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/

I've got a std 560 not an x or e and I've got a 20gbyte HDD in my 560 using
a DDO (dynamic drive overlay) never had any problems yet other than using
ghost.
