The exact procedure varies, but there are almost invariably 2 or 4
screws, they are usually hidden. Once removed, it snaps apart, but
there is a "technique" to it, get it wrong and you break plastic parts.
For most IBM models, the service manual is on the IBM web site and can
be downloaded.

That sounds like the DC/DC converter going bad, not the lamp.

Yep, I still cant find them I do see what looks like 4 plugs but I cant get
them out
Have to see what's going on with this lamp or inverter.

SUCCESS !
What a frightening experience, a 1/4 inch strip of very strong double stick
tape exists between the TFT frame and the converter. The panel does not come
apart exactly as the manual says (Remove the screw covers, screws then pull
down).
Had to pull the left side down and open just enough to cut the tape strip
with and Exacto knife to get the right side to release.
Replacing the lamp was another nightmare, the rows of LCD ribbons fold over
the tube, had to lift over the whole works.
WHAT A STUPID DESIGN !
I used a lamp from a Samsung TFT panel pulled from an AST Ascentia, its MUCH
brighter, better blues, current draw on the converter hasn't changed.
I need a drink !
