Hi everyone.

Im hoping to get an H70 watercooler for my Q6600.

Will it keep load temps under 65c @ 4.2GHz?

it is 65nm CPU. Multiplier is x9.

I have an XFX 780i 3-way SLI mobo if that helps.

Thanks guys/girls for the help

I owned a Q6600 for quite a while- I could only get to 4.0 but not anywhere near stable. I ran it solid at 3.6 for a couple years...3.2-3.4 prior to that. What vcore are you running to get 4.2? Is it Intel Burn Test stable?

And to answer your question, an H70 isn't going to get you much better than most really good air coolers in terms of cooling.

My brother's rig is running a Q6600 at 3.6 with a 212 and runs like a champ. There were very, very, VERY few Q6600's that were stable above 3.8ghz, and that was in a best case scenario of board stability, PSU and RAM as well as perfectly binned CPU. 4.0ghz has been done several times, although not very common...but I don't know that I recall a Q6600 over 4.05 or 4.1 that was stable.

Thanks for the reply. I have a thermalright Ultra 120. Without the fans, passive. The highest iv had it to was 3.4GHz but was too high temps. 48c Idle. Its currently at 2.4GHz again. I want to play GTA IV on high settings but it lags too much. I read a few posts about GTA IV specs and a few people said you need a 3.6GHz quad minimum. I have 4GB ram ddr2 800 and a GTX 285 1GB. I thought that would be enough but i guess not. So if i go with 3.6 that would give me a huge increase in perf as far as gaming is concerned? Because from 2.4GHz to 3.2 i didnt get much of a difference in perf.

I do think my card could be faulty. Because iv seen on youtube that people with a q6600 2.4ghz and gtx 285 are getting max settings with extremely smooth gameplay. Even with fraps recording in the background. I am considering moving to ATI anyway as i have been getting a few NVLDDMKM BSOD's lately. I will consider getting a 212 EVO. Iv been looking at that cooler for a while but thought h70 would do a better job. like amuffin said, that then leaves me some extra cash for a new CPU. Do you recommend a spicific CPU? I do not want to upgrade mobo just yet.

It sounds like you could have other software issues as well...including nVidia drivers as well as some other processes. Have you tried a fresh OS install? This would help rule out an old operating system and other drivers/processes that could ultimately be causing the issue. This is one of the first things I do in attempt to rule out software issues vs. hardware issues.

Could you please point out the best for me here. I will OC to 3.6 or 3.8 if watercooling is involved.

If none of these are a good choice could you please pick one from http://www.pbtech.co.nz/ as i live down the road from here so it is esier to buy from here.

Thanks

Thank you for the help amuffin. Just a quick question. Is this better than a 212 EVO?

I would like to know more about it if you have some time..

thanks.

P.S.
if anyone wondered I believe the OP is from Australia or maybe New Zealand.
(just a guess..)
I did some research in class about IT training abroad..

Hey mate sorry about the reply so long after you asked. Its a IT academy where you can get certificates for Comtia a+, programming, networking all that sort of stuff. My mates dad got into a microsoft job after training there. The job itself i am not sure what it is however its related to microsoft i do know that.
