Hi
My name is Danny. I’m in the 6th grade and I am building my 1st rig. I’ve got a budget of $850 (plus a little more if I really, really need to). My dad is paying for the Bu-ray so that doesn’t count towards the total. I play WoW and hope to get into some more games in the next year. Also my parents want the rig to be able to play movies and photos on your two year old 50" Panasonic Plasma TV. Other wise I have a newer 21” Acer monitor that is 1920 x 1080 resolution.

My dad and I are going to build it together and our combined tech skills are, well, kind of low. I am to pick out all of the parts and here is what I have,

Am I on track???

Solution
You are on the right track...

Couple of things:
1) Don't forget your OS. I recommend at least Win7 Home 64-bit

2) Pick up the Seagate 7200.12 not 7200.11. The 11 has too many known firmware issues to try it. I would look at the Samsung Spinpoint F3's if in stock at time of purchase (fast hard drive).

3) Pick up the Antec 300 Illusion instead to save on cost of purchasing additional fans.

If you have questions on how to build at PC, check out my step-by-step guide in my signature.

Good Luck and Have FUN!!! :D

Great that you're getting into it so young! I didn't build my first rig until i was about 14-15. Your build is solid, but I did have a few suggestions:

Swap the regular 300 with the 300 illusion:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066&Tpk=antec%20300%20illusion
Same price, but you get better airflow via the 2 added front LED intake fans

For your hard drive, I would look into a Samsung Spinpoint f3 or 7200.12, which is another Seagate but better than the one you have listed.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395&cm_re=7200.12-_-22-148-395-_-Product
Buy the spinpoint f3 if its in stock when you buy your parts; get the 7200.12 if you can't wait.

These are good alternative RAM sticks, with tighter timings (the 7-7-7-21) and voltage.

They are also 1333, as opposed to the ones you listed, which are 1600. And in your case, that might be good considering you would have to overclock it due to your motherboard's native 1333 speed. Considering you and your dad's tech knowledge, you might not be comfortable tweaking stuff on bios just yet.

Good stuff, otherwise!

Oh yeah that's great. An 11 year old playing WoW and on a new rig. Pretty soon the last thing anyone is going to remember about the outside is that they saw it on youtube.

I'm 11 and playing the most addictive game on the planet. Thanks for life, dad. :hello:
