Phenom II 545 unlocked to quad TEMPS?

Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Phenom II 545 unlocked to quad TEMPS?

Word :    Username :

Hey so I have successfully unlocked my Phenom II 545 3.0 ghz to a Phenom II 945 3.0 ghz quad.

Now I need to stress test it with prime 95 over night, but what temps are safe for this?
Also, since this processor is 80W with 2 cores and the Phenom II 945's are 125W with 4 cores. should I increase voltage since I added 2 more cores?

So far all I've done is change ACC to unlock the cores and started prime 95 but I don't know what temps are safe. will prime95 shut off if it gets too hot?

What's a good CPU temp monitoring tool?

Thanks.

Sounds normal if your using the stock heatsink designed for the dual core processors, AMD ships a much better heatsink with copper pipes for their higher end processors. What voltage is your chip currently at?

Ok it got up to 68C and I have in the bios a alarm thing that goes off if the CPU gets above 60C and so the alarm went off (a buzzing sound) and then my PC just shut down instantly like some one pulled the plug.

Prime95 didn't see any issues so maybe it shut down because I had that safety thing in the bios set?

What's a bad temp while running prime95 with a 545 unlocked to quad?

Thanks.

Whatever the stock voltage is.

and yes it is the stock HSF for the dual core Phenom II 545

By the way my cpu idles 37-40c right now.

*EDIT* Dangit. CPU hit 68C again while running prime 95 and system shut down again. Am I doing some thing wrong?

if my PC crashes on prime95 does that mean I definitely need to disable the 2 cores again or is there still a chance I can game with it?

That CPUs rated max temp is 70c and so is the phenom II x4 so i would look at some after-market cooling to keep on the safe side.
What type of thermal paste did you use?

this is a good cooler

Check your temps with HWMonitor, Core Temp or RealTemp. SpeedFan seems to be wrong more...
