Hello,

I have a AMD geforce 7050M-M V2.0 motherboard, and bought the Phenom II (X4 965), but am thinking it is not compatible. Especially since it is not recognized (when I check system properties, it shows that I have a "unknown model" and says it only has a speed of 798 MHz." is it incompatible, or do I need to do something?

It's not compatible. :( Your motherboard is not capable of delivering the power necessary to run that CPU.

The 965 models either 140W or 125W. Your motherboard's website claims up to 95W. You need to find a 95W TDP processor. There are some Phenom II X4 925s and 945s that will work. You just have to make sure they say 95W TDP.

My previous CPU is old as well. the problem is i don't want to spend the extra money :( But maybe I will, might as well get it out of the way. Where would I find a BIOS update for it? their site confuses me.

Also this had me wondering ""Although Socket AM3 processors can be used on Socket AM2+ motherboards, the opposite is not possible. This type of damage is not covered under warranty." This was on their website. Sorry I don't have the link, i found it yesterday and apparently forgot to bookmark it.

then what motherboard would you guys recommend? Some people said I should wait till BULLDOZER comes out (if I remember correctly), but that is a little longer than I'd like to wait (November, at least that's what I heard).

The motherboards with socket AM3+ are designed for the bulldozer AMD processors. So, if you're going to go with AMD, you should probably invest one of those for a degree of future-proofing.

If you don't want to do that yet, you can return your 945 and find a 95W Phenom II x4 which you will be able to use in an AM3+ board if you decide to get one in the future.
