Hello everyone,
I am building my on PC and I am choosing these Parts:

AMD PHENOM II X2 550 BLACK 3.1GHZ 7MB L3 DUAL CORE (AM3)

4GB PC-12800 DDR3 1600 RAM KINGSTON HYPER-X KIT (2GB X 2PCS)

SAPPHIRE / MSI HD5770 1GB DDR5 PCI-E VGA CARD (OC EDITION)

MSI 770-C45 DDR3 M/B

22X LG DVD-RW S-ATA

COOLERMASTER GLADIATOR 600 CASING

650W COOLERMASTER EXTREME PSU

My questions are:

1. Are these parts going to work together well?

2. According to my friend who's helping me assemble the PC, that opening the other dual cores would turn the CPU from Dual core to Quad core and would be an easy task and little risks are involved and that buying an AMD PH2 X4 Quad Core 3.0GHz is $80 more for very little difference in performance. What is your professional opinion?

3. Would I be able to utilize the Performance Ram of 1600 with this AMD processor? Or should I just go and get a regular ram of 1333?

Please advice. Thanks you in advance.

i would personally buy this combo:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.308218

i think that should be about the same price, maybe more or less, but it gives you way better stuff.
these parts are very compatible, very balanced, and there wont be any guess work with unlocking the other two cores (which sometimes isnt even possible, i mean think about it, would amd really sell a 100 dollar dual core, that can always change into a quad core, why would you get a real quad core, i am not saying it cant be done, but dont count on it.)

I understand what you're saying, but a 955 is 70dollars more. But I will surely consider it. Regarding the RAM, Would I be able to utilize the Performance Ram of 1600 with this AMD 550 X2 processor? Or should I just go and get a regular ram of 1333?

1600 MHz is better for oc'ing, but 1333 MHz is the sweet spot for just about everything. i dont know exactly what you are using this for, but if it is casual gaming or just normal use, go with the callisto ( i will find another combo :( :D ) but if it is proffesional or any medium to hardcore gaming, go with the 955.

I am going to use Windows 7 64bit and use it Mainly for Photo edit and Graphic Design works on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 and soon CS5. I sometimes feel it's heavy when I load a lot of photos at the same time, hope I can reduce that waiting time dramatically.
