What does it mean when my computer screen on/off button flashes

I have a Dell computer since 2005 and now the monitor screen on/off button flashes and it takes a few minutes for the monitor to turn on and youo can then use the computer. What I want to know is am I goping to be neding a new monitor in the near future.

Turn off monitor sleep modes in power setup. Monitor going bad is always a possibility, if you have a second monitor, test that. If same result it's the windows settings. Try the monitor settings and increase timeout or disable sleep modes.
