New Build..missing 1080p resolution?

In my graphics driver setting the option for 1080P (1920x1080) is missing. The only thing lited under DTV is 1280x740 or something.

I currently have the machine connected to a DEll LCD 15" via DVI. I plan on connecting via HDMI.

I idea what would cause this. I would expect that resolution to be available. Or does the system detect what the monitor can support

Thanks

  1. generally a 15" monitor will not support 1920x1080p. You need to get at least a 22" monitor to run that high of a resolution. Also, please tell us the rest of your system specs.
  2. yea that was stupid of me. Posting while my kids were screaming.

    I am running:
ASROCK M3A785GMH/128M which has the HD 4200 ATI chipset.
AMD Athlon II 425 Ranan Chip

Thing is, even though the monitor would not support it, shouldn't the listed modes include 1080p? Or does the chipset detect what type of device is connected and limits the resolutions accordingly?
  3. Here's the most common resolutions for 1920 x 1080 with pixel pitch and dots per inch

    15.6*.......0.180.......141.21
    16.4*.......0.189.......134.32
    21.5.........0.248.......102.46
    23............0.265.........95.78
    23.6.........0.272.........93.34
    24............0.277.........91.79
    24.6.........0.284.........89.55
    27............0.311.........81.59

At below 96 in the last column, picture starts to look grainy
