Reformatting hard drive with corrupted OS

I cannot access my corrupted HDD XP is inoperable.I have my original Windows XP disk,and need to re-format my HDD.Can you provide a solution please?

You may not need to reformat, just repair the existing OS.

Make the CD drive the 1st boot device in setup (F2).
Boot from the Windows Cd and select 'r' to repair.
