Have to remove thermal paste off CPU for new HSF?

Yesterday I purchased a CM Hyper 212 EVO and I forgot to purchase some alcohol for removing the thermal paste off my CPU. Can I just apply the new HSF onto my CPU since there is already some thermal paste on it?
