Drivers Question

Hello.

I have 2 ATI video cards. One is being sent back via RMA. The 2 cards are a 4890 and a 4870. If I install Catalyst drivers 9.12 on both MB/PCs. Can I switch the video cards when the 4870 is returned/RMA.

In other words I want to switch the video cards in my PCs when the RMA video card is sent back. Are Catalyst 9.12 drivers interchangeable with the 4870 and 4890? How about a 4850?

Yes CAT 9.12 should work fine with it,but it's "Recommended" to do a clean uninstall of your current driver and then install it again when you put the new card in

All that is required is to shut down the PC, install the card, and turn on the machine.

I have no [personal experience here of late but I have seen several post here in the last few months where the swap didn't work.....just guessing here ..... butI would imagine a driver of this size, contains specific data for each card that gets installed after the particular card gets detected.

Personally, I would uninstall / resinstall but as long as you make a restore point, no harm in trying.
