Quick thermal paste question.

My cpu came with thermal paste on the heatsink already and it didn't come with an extra tube or anything. Is that fine, or should I clean it off and replace it?
If I do have to replace it, I have an unopened tube from about 2 years ago, does thermal grease ever go bad or is it still fine?
