I have a Zalman ZM 1000-HP power supply and install it on a X58 motherboard running an intel i7 980 Extreme with 12GB triple channel ram with an ATI 5970 GPU (just one) and a few HDDs.
I see the x58 motherboard (ASUS Rampage 3) has dual 8 pin CPU connectors on the board asside from the normal 24 pin power connector.

Will this Zalam do the job?
Can I rob power from the PCI -E connector or peripheral connector?
or do I need to dish out for a new PSU all over again?

I see the pictures of the Rampage on the web have a small flap over some of the pins around the CPU area, a dust type cover on the dual 4 of the pins of the 8 pin connector, does this mean that I can get away with one 8 pin and the other 4 plug?

What is the minimum power to run the CPU for this motherboard?

Thanks to all that reply :D

a 1000Watt psu should be fine for any single card (even a 5970) setup. It's not a question of watts as much as a question of connectors, which I"m sure you can find adapters for (or they come with the mobo). Read the mobo manual for more help
