Hello everybody, I have an Acer Aspire 6930 laptop that came with a 320 GB HDD as stock. I want to upgrade to a 1TB HDD and have found most nearly all the info I need to properly select and order the proper HDD except for one thing.

I need a SATA HDD. Okay ... but some HDD's have a SATA designation, and some have a SATA 2 (or II) designation, and some have a SATA 3 (or III) designation.

The restore disc does not care which SATA I will install, but the motherboard might. Am I correct in giving careful consideration to the number of the SATA? Or is the differences meaningless?

Thank you all in advance,
Angelo

The differences are meaningless to you, SATA is backward and forward compatible so you won't have a prob.

Your mb has SATA 2 and since you're not getting an SSD then you won't be able to saturate it (300 MB/s) so you can get any sata drive.

If you were getting an SSD then you would want an SATA 2+ drive that has throughput over 150MB/s.
