The saying, an engineering maxim iirc, is "You can have it good,
cheap, or fast - pick two." I don't know that light weight is
important to most people, though it ought to be. Most people here are
looking for big screens, fast processors, and high-end optical drives,
and seem willing to take a weight penalty for them.

Hi Lisa,
You left out a choice . . . 'full featured'. I use a HP Pavilion zd7010us and it weighs in at 9.5lbs (another 1.25lbs for the
power supply), which definitely is not light. It set me back $2,350 (including 3 year accidental damage warranty) so not cheap.
The machine is fast & full featured.
I see here at comp.sys.laptops that a lot of people are looking for small & light. Personally, if it is small & light, it
probably doesn't have all the features I need. My computer is my livelihood, so I need a machine that can do everything I need
not matter where I am at. I admit, that when I am running across Denver Airport I wish I had a lighter machine but when I get to
my destination, I am extremely glad that I have the machine with me.
Mind you, I am not saying that small & light is bad . . . I'm just saying that it is not for everyone.
Ciao . . . C.Joseph
