Hello,
I've been reading up on selecting ram for my new motherboard and I'm more confused now than before.
Help me select 6gb of ram compatable with this board and will probably expand the ram in the future.

More about : ram buy p6x58d premium

First of all thank you for your prompt response. I was told by Asus to purchase all the ram I think I will want at one time. Originally I was going to start with 6gb
and later add another 6gb. My budget will have to stay somewhere betwee $300-400. I was looking at Corsair 3x2 N82E16820145258. Do you think that would
be a good choice? Asus wasn't able to help me much so I'm going to Corsair next to see what they have to say. Thanks again for your help.

Yes I'm planning on purchasing the i7 930 and I'm going to try overclocking. I'm new at it but I'm going to give it a try. I'm building a computer with quite a bit of HP.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

@Maziar: SOlid suggestion in fact I'm running 4GB of those Crucial.

I think that this G.Skill PI 1600 is a better option.

The Corsair have a high CL that isn't good for DDR3

Thanks for your help, I went to Newegg to check thier ratings and it sure has a high rating. I'm now going to G Skill web site to see what I can
find out about compatibility with my MB. :)

I checked the G Skill site on your ram recommendation and my motherboard (P6X58D Premium) was not listed as a recommend match. I'v done a lot of checking today
and have decided to go with Corsair XMS3 TR3X6G100G8. After checking the Corsiar web site and reading the reviews at Newegg and others.

That the RAM isn't listed in the QVL doesn't mean that don't works with ur mobo just means that that specific model wasn't tested with the mobo that u have.

Do u think that with the rating that have the RAM isn't compatible with the mobo an more with a very solid mobo like the P6X58D Premium?

You are probably right I have seen it recommeded by several folks. You would think that G Skill would add it to their list of
supported motherboards.

Could be an options but like ASUS hasn't tested the mobo with that RAM G.Skill can't add to the supported mobos only with the ratings of the users.

There are some manufactures that aren't in the QVL list, but will work just fine

Boy wouldn't know it just when I decide which ram to buy (G Skill) Newegg sells out
today. They showed it in stock this moring and now they are sold out for the next 2
weeks. Does anyone know who might have that ram at a reasonable price. I've looked around and most vendors were considerably higher than Newegg. If I can't
find a competive price I'll just have to wait.

I think that 12GB are overkill unless that u use many adobe applications at the same time.

And the H50 isn't a good option for the i7-930 IMO u can go with a cpu cooler like the Noctua NH-D14 for a little more money or the TT Frio, Magahalems, Thermalrgith Venomous X or Titan Fenrir for a fewer price and get better performance.

You are probably right about too much ram. Wish I would have checked with You guys before I purchased some of this stuff. I'm new to fourms and I'm not comfortable
yet navigating around. It sure looks like a good way to get valuable feedback on purchases and problems. I appreciate all of the help you have given me.
I have already purchased the H50 cooler and it sould be in with 2-3 days. I'm not sure what you mean "IMO" about the cooler?

Usually for a good performance with LCS u need have a water block in the CPU and other in the GPU, since the H50 is a sealed LCS u are limited to only use it for the CPU.

Now we know that when u OC ur rig for get better performance u need OC the CPU, GPU and maybe the RAM so u are using a LCS for the CPU but stock cooling for the GPU that give u a big temperature difference that affect the performance.

You are right,LCS is mostly used with all components, but since OC'ng the VGA doesn't affect the performance as much as CPU, then a LCS only for CPU is good, but there are many cheaper options(air cooling) which can do the job well, however the OP has already purchased it so i think he should keep it

I'm going to probably keep the H50 it's paid for. :)

I finally ordered this ram around 10:00 a.m. to find out at 4:00 p.m. that NewEgg had gotten in the G Skill. I can't seem to win for losing. I guess my
impatience is costing me, but in anycase I think this corsair will do a good job, it has good reviews. Thanks for all of your help I will let you know how
the build goes.
