Hi Everyone...

I just built me a Dell XPS 720 H2c. CPU QX 6850, Memory 8gigs of ocZ (HPC) highest mhz. possible, Video 2ea. Nvidia 8800 GTX, Dell H2c Cooler New 720 motherboard, New Case with all the fixens and BIOS Rev. 6. How do I ignite the heart of this beast and get the blood flowing? Not sure where to start to down load everything and OS Vista Ultimate 64bit.

Expert's....

Please advise...

(oops! Thxs...)

Mark

Welcome,

First thing you do is load the OS......
Set your boot order to CD/DVD first, then hard drive second.
Insert OS install disk, boot er' up.
Install the OS, then upon completion of that, motherboard/chipset/USB/Audio/LAN drivers from the DVD that came with the motherboard. Then the video card drivers.

But, what do you mean you "just build me a Dell XPS 720"? That makes no sense at all???
If this is an OEM PC you are receiving, you simply turn it on and follow the on screen instructions. It will be basically ready to run when you get it.

What the heck are you doing posting your email on here? Never, ever, never, ever do that! If I were you, I would edit your post immediately and erase that.

1. If you JUST built it mind listing the price?

2. NEVER list Email on a public Forum because there are spammers looking for that kind of things (it's quite easy to use Google + scripts to search for Emails on public)

3. +1 for what jit said.

4. Depending on what you payed for this, you probably got ripped off. The QX6850 and 8800GTX are OLD as in 2-3 generations old.

1. $1,760.00 for everything....! I picked it all out and all parts have a warranty. from CPU to high end sound card, all is I think, a good price? Your thought? I was able to get the XPS side panel to go with the NEW case. Not one scratch on the case and all parts are NEW less the sound cards, and mother board which is a refurbished board with a warranty.

2. Thanks... I did not know... oops!!

************************************

I have everything together and I'm trying to get it going, up and running.

When I (pf2) the system, it is having a hard time reconizing everything. I get the blue (BIOS) screen where for a Dell has you ID number key that is for the system build when it is built at Dell. I get that far and it appears to lock up? I can not move anything with my key board to check the CPU, graphics card or anythinh. I don't think it's anything bad, just not sure where to start to get the heart beating so I can load the Vista Ultimate OS.

Any ideas??

1. NOOO!! $1700 is NOT a good price AT ALL. You can build a high end Core i7 920 based PC with a X25-M G2 for $1700.

2. Are you using a PS2 or USB keyboard?

3. You do realize you over payed for oder tech right? The CPU is 1 generation old, and the GPU is 2-3 generations old.

I understand what you are saying, I like Dell and for the price; $1,700.00 was not bad for what I have. I'm still new to the computer land or should I say expert / geeks. I started out with HP; I quickly realized that was not the way to go. Dell was the next step and for a learning curve for cost and what I know today, was not a bad switch off. I had a back-up with /dell Support which has been very good; they have taught me a bunch.

This is my first build for a computer and my other Dell 720 XPS H2c that I'm on now works (VERY!!) nice. I also have a Dell XPS M170 that has been very nice as well. I have spent a very minimal amount of $$ for what I have and still works with all the games and paper work I do at home connected to business. All in all, Dell has been a very good learning experience and I do plan on building my own again within the next 5 to 7 years... I have been doing some reading on computers and cloud plan that is not far away. We all will have much to learn when computers as we see them today make a dramatic change in the way we perform processes, and software as we know it today...

2. Answer: USB keyboard... I bet that is the problem??

Hi

I do have one more thing to add from the last item I replied to which was 2. Answer: I'm using a usb keyboard to try and access the Bios.

With using my usb keyboard it has to be working because I'm able to hit the pf2 key and get in to the set-up utility. Does that mean all of the keyboard should work or was I just lucky? By using a ps2 keyboard, should I have no problem with navigating at all? I do know I should be able to purchase an adapter to go from usb to ps2 plug-in.

Let me know...

Thanks again!! :)
