I just installed a xfx 5850 in my system today. I wanted to know what is a normal temperature for a high powered GPU under load and usually what is the maximum temperature you want to see? Any help or advice would be great.

Currently my card is idling @ 45-47C
Under load @ 70-75C

note: I have not overclocked it, I am running it just stock.

To OP:
What model your card? Brand?
I think your card is good on that temps...

To zipzoomflyhigh:
your 9800GT is really "HOT", isn't?
That's far away from your HD4850... :)

My main question is what can it go to? My case has good ventilation and this card does have ventilation out the back of the case.

Your card and temps are good, just make sure it's not exceeding 80'C, even your card can stand at 110'C... :)

Dude your 5850 is reallly hot mine underload is at like 47 and idles around 38 or 40. Try moving your computer to a more open space that dropped my cpu temps by like 15 degrees c.

GPUs can withstand high temps, as already stated. You're ok with that temps, some reviews list temps of up to 80-85 for some 5000 series vid cards.

unless you are water cooling your 5850 I do not believe that your video card underload is 47C just on air.

I have an MZXT M59 Case with 3 case fans and my 5850 averages about 47C after playing an hour of Crysis (1920x1080, all high settings). Right now on "idle" it is resting comfortably at 35C.

No water cooling here, and I agree that this persons 5850 is running hot, but not anything to worry about.
