Hi all,
I have XP x64 SP2 as my default OS.
This part is working fine, boot.ini says its the default and the start screen confirms that, ALL OK
I also installed XP x86 SP3 (Both OS are Pro Eds. BTW).
My problem is with the x84 system which is giving the ole "ntoskrnl.exe" is missing or corrupt message. This just after a fresh install.
I've tried making some changes to the x86 line no success.

In my latest attempt I disconnected the x64 and reloaded the x86. At that point the boot.ini already an x86 line which would produce the "ntoskrnl.exe" at the onset. I deleted it, kept the latest x86 (which had been made default) set the x64 as default. When given the 2 options, x86 does not start and shows the "ntoskrnl.exe" as corrupt or missing.
I include my boot.ini here below in case someone can spot something amiss

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="M$ Windows XP Pro x64" /fastdetect /noexecute=alwaysoff
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS.2="M$ Windows XP Pro x86" /fastdetect /noexecute=alwaysoff

Please tell me what I am doing wrong

Thanks

Lotek

Hi,
Sorry if I took long to respond, I just got out of the hospital today.
I was there for a full week.

Just before though, I solved my problem by myself.
I re-installed x86 and then looked at the results in in the boot.ini file.
Once I had tested the second x86 entry to show up on the start--up screen.
That instance of x86 worked and then I changed boot.ini to reflect the new reality.
I deleted the old instance of x86.
Moved the default need be's to x64
Everything is now OK in this regard but....

I will be coming back with another puzzle soon:
How do you get XP Windows Explorer x64 to display any AV data?
I'll do a bit more research on my own before posting that one formally.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read my post
