How do i know what kind of power supply i will need

i have a presentation on power supplys and my question is what does the type of power supply u use depend on is it the motherboard?

No. There are two questions here: brand and power capacity. Some brands are simply better than others. A good 400 watt power supply can produce more useful power and a poor 600 watt power supply.

Power capacity is a different matter. That depends largely upon CPU and graphics card choice. Motherboards use comparatively little power.

As you can see, all the components need power....base MoBo might draw 38 watts, CPU - 130 watts, GFX card - 200 watts ... add em up, account for loading and aging and you have a wattage req't.
