Hard Drive Spinning Down then Up again

Ok so my 1tb samsung HDD has started randomly spinning down at certain times and then spinning back up again. The process end with a click. Its relatively new and I just find it a bit unusual. The HDD still works fine, its just a very loud worrying sound. Any advice on what it is? Or what to do?

You didn't mention your OS, but windows 7 tends to power down devices quite a bit. You can use the power configuration to tell it to not spin down the drives. Other windows OS's have similar features in their power settings.

Woops! Yes im running windows 7 ultimate. I'll give it a go. Bit odd how i've never changed any settings and its only just started.

It can still be a drive going bad, but I'd start with the power settings.

It seems to have stopped it from happening. Looks like a program changed my power settings back to normal so I've altered some settings back to what they were. Thanks for all the help
