I just added a 5750 GPU to a box running on board ATI graphics. The board seems to run fine but every time I re-boot XP tries to install the ATI HD audio driver again and fails. Device manager says the device is running OK. Any ideas how to make this go away?

Did you do the following?
First, uninstall/remove all the drivers for the onboard video.
Reboot, and let windows install the generic VGA drivers for the onboard graphics.
Reboot, enter the BIOS, and turn off or set the graphics option to PCIe first.
Shut down, install new 5770, boot to Windows, and it should boot using only the standard VGA driver.
Install the Catalyst Driver Package.

You might try completely removing all the drivers using a good driver remover program, then try reinstalling the Catalyst Package again.

I had the same problem (using an X-Fi card with onboard sound disabled in BIOS).
The solution was to install the high def sound package for the motherboard Azalia system, even though it was disabled and I installed a full software suite from ATI!
