I don't think you're going to be able to 4 way those. 4 way sli only works between 2 cards with 2 gpus on them like 295s. However in most cases 3 285s will beat 2 295s.

I suppose you could 3 way some 285s and then use the last card for physx.

I think Crossfire works in 4 way, but is slower than 2 way unless you are using a 2560x1600 display. Which I'm betting you are.

If you want a cool gaming rig wait until Fermi comes out(January or February), if it's good get two of 380s, the new 24" acer 3d display(set to come out about the same time), and some 3d vision glasses. If Fermi is bad go with the ATI solution.

ok see these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKQVqcHRos4

Given the poor scaling of 4x Xfire or SLI, I might suggest going 3x Xfire with a dedicated PhysX card by nVidia. You still have monster power, you have DirectX 11 and PhysX. You don't even need to have a board that can do both SLI and Xfire, because the nVidia card is not being used in either formation.

If you just want to know which gets higher benchmark scores, and are not serious about building anything, I'll leave you with this info:

When I benchmarked my machine with 3dmark vantage and 3dmark06, both showed the fasted computer benchmarked, and both had 3x 5870's in crossfire.
