Hello,
I lives in punjab ,INDIA
I am planning to buy a new pc for home use and LATEST CPU avaliable in market are "CORE2DOU 2.9" AND "DUAL CORE 2.6". I am confused which one to buy , core 2 dou 2.9 or dual core 2.6 . also which motherboard should best suited 41 RQ or G31. I want a cpu which i can use for at least 4 years. please help in deciding me the right one. thanks

Solution
What do you do with the PC?

Core 2 Duos are obsolete.
You can get AMD athlons for the same price.

Tell us your budget and which components you wanna buy...

Core 2 Duo is better than Dual Core.
A 3GHz Core 2 Duo can run games like Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2, REAR 2, Resident Evil 5, Avatar, Red Faction Guerrilla, Prototype, Bioshock 2, wolfenstein, Fallout3 and Turok on high settings (you will need also a 8800GT).
A Core 2 Duo will not last 4 years for games though.
Are the two motherboards you mentioned the only choices you have? It is recommended to avoid motherboards with only 2 RAM slots.

Well, clearly those are not the latest CPU in the indian market, you can order from other citites like mumbai, chennai and delhi since it's closer to you.

Your CPU is going to outdate by then. Even i was looking for a CPU that would last me for aleast 3 years. I agree with shubham1401, C2D's are obsolete. My suggestion would be invest more now instead of changing your entire computer many times.

It would be better if you give us a budget s we can help you out better.
Go for an AMD Phenom II or Athlon II(without L3 cache)

Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz for Rs.5400
Phenom II X4 955 3.2ghz for Rs. 9000

If you budget allows u, you can go for AM3 motherboard which will require DDR3 RAM which is a little expensive, or the cheaper AM2 motherboard with DDR2 ram. You'll notice the diffference between them only in bechmarks not while computing.

Go for 4GB RAM with a 32bit OS or 3GB since 32 bit OS's can recognize only upto 3.4 GB...go for DDR2 or DDR3 depending on your motherboard.

AM3/AM2(different model numbers) : motherboard: Gigabyte/Asus 785G chipset will cost you around Rs. 5- 6 thousand.

Websites form where you can order online..

I'm sorry "Don't trust intel, low on performance". I bought an AMD system over Intel but i would never say that intel is low on performance. Intel makes the standard for performance processors. Intel has a bigger market share than AMD in processors buisness not because they are low on performance. AMD has great processors too, but Intel first come with the greater.

I Do not agree with u...

U are getting me Wrong Buddy, what I am saying is that

U see I used Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6ghz , Dual core 3.0 ghz.. Used AMD 5200+, AMD 7850BE, AMD Phenom 945..

The dual core and the amd 5200+ was same price that time.. the deference between these two is that Intel's Dual core as we know that
was good idea for intel to sell their product by giving customers the thought that it really had 2 cores and 3.0ghz means= 3.0*2...
Instead they gave only 3.0.... because the dual core only had 2 logical cores, not physical......
The AMD 5200+ gave 35-40% better performance than The INTEL's Dual core.....

Again the Core 2 Duo Vs. 7850BE
The 7850BE and Core 2 Duo 2.6 ghz was almost same price [ AMD was 250RS Cheaper]
7850 has 2.8 ghz and 3 MB Cache - Intel 2.6 and 2 MB
7850 was A Black Edition. I.E. It has a multi-clocker inside.. means capable of super over-clocking.......
7850 Was 10 - 15 % better..................

Not only this but AMD also has the best Graphics Producing Integrated Chips..............
Also they developed technologys like advanced CrossFire X etc...............

Remember, AMD allways gives better Performance then Intel At The Same Price....
ya, if u dont care about money then u can all ways go for Intel. I know that intel's cores have better capability..... But In the same Price, AMD Will give even better performance......

U guys decide what to chose between Intel VS. AMD.....

Considering the price factor, YES AMD has a better cost:performance ratio, but till AMD reaches that level, Intel is already a step ahead. When AMD came out with their 955BE and 965BE these two processors beat the hell out of 45nm C2D and C2Q, but then intel came out with 32nm i7 core processor. In short i agree with that Intel has horrible prices for their processors but they are not low on performance. We can't say that the i7 is low on performance coz there is no other standard to compare it with. The i7 has been compared with the AMD 965BE and beats it in a few places but still remains as the KING OF ALL THE PROCESSORS. Now waiting to see AMD 32nm chips to beat the hell outta i7

I would not say core 2 duos are obsolete an E8600 is a great all around processor it games well does everything you could ask of it so saying its obsolete means its worthless which its not, yes the lga775 is dead socket no new cpus for it buts not dead in performance.

I said obsolete in the sense that there is no point buying a new LGA 775 rig!!

U see, Our perspectives are not same...... I think that Performance all-ways should be measured by Price......... And In that case AMD has Beat the Hell out of Intel. Do U Agree????

Value = Price : Performance+ Reliability

i agree with th fact that when performance is measured by price AMD beats the hell otta Intel, thats because not all of us can afford an i7 rig especially in India. But when you compare the Phenom II processors with the i7, i7 rules. A professional doing video, sound or graphic editing would find the i7 better than the Phenom II. The Multi-Threading will be a boon to him....most people look at the price first and then the performance but their are numerous people who first look at performance...NOW DO YOU AGREE ?? :)

All dual core Intel chips have 2 physical cores. The Pentium D used two separate dice though, not not one die with 2 cores. The Pentium 4 HT has two logical cores, but was never called a dual core so I don't get your point.

Now if the retailer is calling a Pentium 4 HT a dual core that's an issue, but those haven't been sold in years.

I agree but I 'm sure that AMD will come up with something better than i7 and from what I hear they are lunching the Phenom II X6 processors this MAY...... I'm sure they will perform better specially with an 890FX Chip coming out very soon..........

Well the 890GX is out and the Phenom II X6 is also going to be 45nm fabrication. the best thing i like about AMD is that they don't change their processor sockets frequently as intel does, even if they do they are backward compatible :D.....
