I'm planning on building a pc for myself. I understand all of the components to an extent, but have no idea when it comes to motherboards. I know what they do.... but don't know what all of the specs mean basically. The computer I build will be for Windows 7 and will be most used for rendering 3d animation and after effects stuff.

The other main parts I'm thinking of getting are:
-i7 930 CPU
-gtx 470/ 480
-cosair 12gb ddr3 ram

Here are the motherboards. All I want is a board that will last me a good few years. I'd like to be upgrading my computer as I go along, but I don't want to have to build a new one all of the time. In terms of overclocking I'm not sure.... its possible if it will help me with render time:

ASUS Rampage II Extreme

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

ASUS P6X58D-E

and like I said.. I have no idea what all of this stuff means. I don't know what to look for. These three are all boards I've been recommended!

Asus rampage is not worth the price premium. Between the other two I would select the cheaper board which is the Gigabyte unless that you would need the extra regular PCI slot on the Asus for add in cards.
