Hello guys, I work in the CG industry and am often rendering hi polygonal models and environment with large texture maps, hdri's and dense atmospheres. Also, I will be doing long animations in the future. I am building my new pc and had been waiting for the 930 to come out, which they have. I was under the impression that the would also release a more affordable consumer based 6CORE i7 by Q1 and was very anxious to WAIT for it! However, I now find out that the 6core 930x will only be available as EXTREME, costing upwards to $1000!! Much out of my budget.

So, Now i have a choice between the newly released 930 2.8ghz or the CLASSIC 920/860. And between the 920/860 which one tends to do better for High Res Rendering?

The 930 is $50 more than the 920 at a local computer store (Microcenter) So is it worth the extra $50 to get the 930 4CORE? Any input would be awesome :)

easy answer....best you can afford. :)

You can easily clock a 930 to 975 levels ..... but a 950 generally OC's higher than a 930 ..... a 960 higher than a 950 ......

IIRC. the hexacore arrives on march 16

The hexacore will probably be out of your budget. I'd say that the i7-930 would be the best, followed by the 860 and 920.
