Installing Windows XP help

Hi,

If anyone could help me it would be very much appreciated!

I bought a brand new hard drive not long ago to fit into a friends laptop which I said I would reload. I received the hard drive and plugged it in, then popped in the XP disc I have.

I have tried installing XP but when you go to select the drive to install XP nothing shows?

I thought this was strange, so I popped in a Windows 7 disc and tried to see if you could see the drive when installing Windows 7, funnily enough I could.

I dont get why I can see it in Windows 7 but no in Windows XP?

The Windows XP disc I have has SP3 slipstreamed into it.

Any ideas?

The hard drive I purchased is a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 250GB.
