Adding S.M.A.R.T. response

I just built a computer and am relatively new to S.M.A.R.T response technology. After reading a very in depth article on it I decided when building said computer I would have both SSD and HDD for the added benefits. However, being somewhat of an amateur at this I did not enable RAID and have already set up my OS on the SSD and am unable to use S.M.A.R.T. response. Can I back up my computer and enable it after a system recovery? What would be my steps to ensure that I could enable this feature and restore my computer with the data that is on it currently as I do not want to lose it being that I am in school and have several important papers on it. Thanks to anyone with helpful info.

Smart Response Technology with Z68 chipset mobo right? No "." between the letters in Smart. S.M.A.R.T is a totally different thing.

What is the size of the SSD?
