The directory or file cannot be created

copying pics to xd card and get message "The directory or file cannot be created" after copying some thirty pics with more than 3/4ths the disk still available. What gives. Tried to restart, tried shutting down and restarting, tried removing the disk and re-installing it. Any ideas?

Are you trying to copy files into the root folder of the card? Most cards are formatted using one of the FAT file systems and they can only store a limited number of files in the root folder. Try creating a subfolder on the card and copying the files into that instead.

Also FAT can't store individual files larger than 4GB. It's not normally a problem for pictures, but it can be for large files such as videos. The only solutions for that are to break the files up into smaller pieces or to reformat the card with a different file system (such as NTFS) that supports larger files.

One of my cameras just happens to use an XD card. The camera does not save images to a root folder. Instead it saves images to a subfolder. Try doing the same thing.
