I've got a kingston hyperx KHX6400D2/1G memory module (1gb capacity) installed on my gigabyte g31m-es2l rev2 motherboard, but as the time passed I felt the need to add more memory due to system requirements of several games/applications.

I don't have much of a budget so I would like to buy a single 2gb ram stick as I don't really care about the dual-channel configuration.

Do I have to buy the same model as my previous ram stick?

Can it just be a kingston 2gb valueRam, since they're cheaper than the hyperx's?

Does the manufacturer/model/capacity really matter in a single channel configuration as long as they're all DDR2s?

Thank you very much for your answers and patience.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Like u don't want dual channel the size, brand and specifications can be different just be sure that you install the new stick in single channel.

Also make sure that all of the modules use the same Voltage for the speed and timings you are running at -- The MOBO can only have one voltage - speed - and timings for all of the RAM modules so you need to ensure that all of the modules will work at the same settings.
