I have recently received a computer with XP Professional
installed. The display appears shaded, or fuzzy to me on
both my monitor and the laptop screen. I've tried changing
the resolution, but the problem doesn't seem to go away.
Any ideas?

For LCD turn on Clear Type. Display Properties > Appearance > Effects > Use
the following method ... check the box and select Clear Type in the drop
down menu.

What resolution are you running at? Laptop screens will look good only at
the screen's native resolution. (The same applies to desktop LCD monitors.)
