I am not going to claim to be a expert when it comes to what hardware to buy but I have built several pc's in the past, hit or miss alot of times.

I am building a new pc to replace my dc intel with a AMD Phenom II X4 955...here is what I have

AMD Phenom II X4 955
GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P AM3
Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
ATI 4780 or 8800gts
Windows 7 ultimate

+ the other usual part ie: case, dvd drives 600w pwr supply etc.

I assembled the pc to a wonderful no boot situation....after much work I find the M/B is dead and needs RMA...not a problem but they have discontinued the item.

Question:

I am a high end gamer, photo movie editor and definitally beat down a pc for all its worth so I am looking for some quidence as to what m/b I should now opt for? Although I currently dont, I would investigate possible SLI in the future

If you are a high-end gamer, these graphics cards won't do it. Aim for an ATI 5770 at least, a 4890 if possible and ideally a 5850.

A 640GB HDD doesn't use 500GB platters, making it rather slow. The Samsung Spinpoint F3 and Seagate 7200.12 (500GB and 1TB versions) are a lot faster.

The rest is great.

Agree with Silmarunya, If you are a hig-end gamer you need a better GPU, something like a HD 5870 or HD5890, ot nVidia GTX285 or GTX295. (If you want SLI get 2 GTX260 or GTX275)

Your HDD is good, but not enough. Try to get a Samsung spinpoint F3, or some WD Velociraptor.

What is your PSU?, you need a good PSU from a good manufacturer like Corsair, Thermaltake, Antec, PC Power and cooling or OCZ.

well my original question was my motherboard was DOA when I got it so what should I get to replace it that is comparable to the GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P ? As this one was Discontinued.

The video card was good at one time but I am ready for a new one...thank you for the info
