Attempting to use 24" Dell LCD w/ laptop

I went ahead and plugged a spare monitor I had in to my laptop, and it went flawlessly, until I noticed that the screen was flickering. Both ends are connected correctly, I downloaded the DELL drivers as well just in case that was the problem. The laptop runs a native 1440x900, and that is what I put the monitor at; only has one option for refresh rate, and its set at 60.

I have tried putting the resolution up to the max the monitor can handle, and there is still flickering. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows usually finds it for you but I believe you may need your monitors .inf file to set the refresh rate properly. Is it detecting the monitor by name or just as a generic display?
