Computer configuration advice

I'm going to buy a new desktop that I use for business purposes and some gaming. I don't usually game with the sound on but I like a good fast solid dependable configuration that gives speed and dependability. It seems that in the past I've gone with minimal configuration and they end up fairly slow. My gaming isn't serious and mainly just online games, no joy sticks or outside controls used. Any advice on what configruation would be best?
