cannot find hardware device, cd drive

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.configuration_manage (More info?)

Cannot use cd or dvd drives. Driver for cd drive loads,
but device manager shows error sign and device properties
shows error code 41. new install works fine (spare
drive.) Uninstalling drives in safe mode amd redetecting
did not help. Using firewire or usb cd drive produces
same result.
