Windows XP: Have lost Secondary IDE Channel. How do I restore it?

My secondary IDE channel has disappeared. Not listed in Device Manager and no entry in System Information. It is physically present and all OK.

How do I get it back?

Is it listed in BIOS at StartUp or can you see it in the BIOS menus? Have you checked the cable and the physical connection to the second drive?

Hi there,

Thanks for replying. Finally resolved it after burning much midnight oil.

Traced eventually to a hardware fault, with intermittantly poor connection to secondary IDE master. I think that repeated removal and replacement of all the components finally cleaned up a dry joint!

Still, nice to know that there are good folks out there ready to help.
