System won't boot

I have a older system that I just formated the HD on and would like to install Windows 98 or ME. I created a boot disk from another system I have and inserted it into the A: Drive. Bios is set to boot from the A: Drive, too.

When the system starts I accept the message to boot with CDROM support. Okay so far, right? Wrong!

The OTI-91X ATAPI CD-ROM device driver loads and finds 1 drive. Good!

However, when the AIC-6260/6360/6370 ASPI Manager for DOS trys to load the system hangs with the A:Drive light constantly on. I'm stumped! What do I do now to get this bloody thing to load the CD-ROM drivers?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Please email smenard1@swbell.net with your ideas. Thanks!

Perhaps the files on the floppy disk are corrupted, or the floppy disk is damaged. I'd create a new boot disk, with a fresh floppy. You can download the bootdisk files from:

I'd also check the cable and be sure that the floppy drive is securely connected.

If this doesn't work, perhaps you could temporarily borrow a floppy drive from a friend, long enough to load the OS, just in case the drive unit itself is damaged.

Note: Since this is the active partition we are talking about, you did use the "drive letter" FORMAT /s command when formatting the partition?
