I5 v dual core

can anyone help as looking at purchasing new laptop and have seen that the new i5 is due out 2010 is it better than the dual core processor?

Yes, basically the i5 is better in all aspects in comparison to any other brand dual core of the same speed.

thanks for response - as not urgent need for laptop will wait for i5 to look at further when it comes out

The i5 laptops are all dual core. They are better than a Core 2 Duo, but to say they are better than a dual core would be quite odd, since the i5 has 2 cores.

i was talking in terms of any other brand of dual-core, such as core 2 duo, pentium dual core, any of AMD's offerings, etc...

Not to add to the confusion... isn't cord 2 duo better than duo core??? And so isn't i3 and i5 going back in tech?

Core 2 Duo is one type of dual core. Core 2 duo is better than Core Duo is better than Pentium D.
