This is my overclock of my i5 3570k@4.6Ghz w/Gigabyte Z77-UD5H MoBo, Antec 902 v3 Case, Scythe Ninja 3 CPU Cooler, and Arctic Silver 5 Compound.
http://s1296.beta.photobucket.com/user/ericjohn004/medi...
Scroll through for both IBT and Prime95 temps.
I think my temps are under control for being air cooled at 4.6Ghz, even under IBT they stay around 90c MAX. 86-87 average. And under Prime95 they don't even touch 80c. About 77c average.
So what do you guys think?

Hi guys. Can I ask why I'm not in the insane table?
Cause I haven't put you up yet? I only updated the stable list last time...
Updating now....
LOL you updated very badly. I am no where...
I haven't gotten to updating yet....I have tests and course selection to go through for next year. Will see if I can update by the end of this week.

Hello, I'm new to Tom's hardware. I'm curious as to whether I have the mythical Golden Chip. I built my computer day ago, and am getting amazing clocks at a relatively low voltage and temperature on air. 4.5ghz at 1.184 vcore at around 70c full load.
Is my chip as amazing as I think it is? I have not attempted lower vcore. I'm running a static voltage on asrock z77 extreme4.

I am using Hyper 212+ with fan pointing (air flow direction) toward rear of my case/exhaust fan. I have a large intake fan up top and 2 smaller fans up front for a dual-ish wind tunnel. (Antec 902 case). What would be a way to determine whether it's a golden chip? I upgraded from E8400/Nvidia 650i ultra chipset, so everything is still fairly fresh/new to me.

Well with that cooler those are VERY good numbers. No one to verify but to give it a better cooler.

I just got my i5-3570k today and right out the box put it at 4.5Ghz. Running at 1.2Vcore is that good or average for these chips? Also during prime never went passed 78C during gaming never hit 70C. Using a corsair H70. How hot would be considered safe? I would like ot see if I could hit 5.0 on this like I did my 2550k but concerned about temps. During IBT on Very high through 10 passes my chip reached 95C.
Cpu - i5-3570k
MB - Asus P8Z68-V Gen 3
Cooling - Corsair H70 Core
Ram - G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600 Mhz 8-8-8-24
Cpu Voltage - 1.265(1.2 was set but it auto'd to 1.265) I dont have it set to auto not sure why it went up on its own.
Cpu Speed - 4.5
Cpu Bus/Multi 100/45
Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Cpu Validation - http://valid.canardpc.com/2766375
Doing my runs now and I will post the pictures when finished of IBT on high 10 passes.
Guess I wont be able to post pic or url for a bit.

I do not put any hope on Haswell.Intel is more concerned with GPU power than CPU, they want to dominate low end video.
It's all about more performance/watt!
If you notice Intel GPU performance is growing much faster than CPU, so, it is obvious that Intel wants the low end GPU market, for now. If the market allows faster CPU/GPUs then I suspect that GPU can reach the lower mid-range performance. This is exactly what Nvidea and AMD do not want.

If they can make their multi monitor support easier and more compatible then they would not have much loss in revenue as low end GPUs are bought not for gaming, but for multi-monitors. As long as Intel remains under the HD77xx range of cards, Nvidia and AMD should not lose much.

Thermal Compound: Coollaboratory Liquid Pro (both on die and between heatsink/spreader)
I had major heat issues with my setup reaching in excess of 88C with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO @ a mere 1.180 Core Voltage, even after de-lidding and replacing the TIM! Frustrated I gave in and bought Coollaboratory Liquid Pro covering the die, I mean it was enough to soak a newspaper LOL After this my temps dropped from 88C to 69C @ 1.180 Core Voltage using the Zalman CNPS11X. I had no idea the heat buildup from using a regular TIM, clearly it's not enough and Intel should really have soldered the IHS to the DIE. The results below are my final ones I won't be going above 1.3 Core Voltage and 4900 is not stable at that rate so I will stick to this:
4.8GHz @ 1.290 Core Voltage @ 78C full load using Prime95 w/ 10 min FFT's and 90% RAM for 12 hours.

I find that this processor really doesn't find a limit. I've had this OC on for about 4 months now, I used to use a Cooler Master TX3, but I got the Liquid Cooler for a decent price. I want to try 4.5GHz, but I'm afraid I may permanently damage my only real computer.
