Windows 7 AtiX1550 wont display correct resolution

Hello all i have an issue. I have just installed windows 7 on an emachines that has an intel celeron 2ghz, 2gb ram, and an ati x1550 video card. My problem is that the the desktop, once installed with windows 7, will only use part of the lcd. The highest the resolution will go is 1280x1024 which leaves 2 inches of the lcd blank. I didnt have this problem when this desktop had windows xp on it. I have installed the latest ati drivers and also tried using the adjustmens on the monitor but i cant get it to display correctly! Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

I resolved this issue myself simply by unplugging the monitor from the card and leaving the computer powerd off and unplugged for a few minutes.
