How to record to computer without microphone input jack

Hello,my new notebook does not have a microphone input jack. On my old computer I recorded from my digital tape recorder using a 35mm plug directly into the microphone input. Can I record using a USB input? I plan to get a 35mm to USB cord.

Most of the converters you will find will be audio-out only.
For example, this would probably work.
