Hello,my new notebook does not have a microphone input jack. On my old computer I recorded from my digital tape recorder using a 35mm plug directly into the microphone input. Can I record using a USB input? I plan to get a 35mm to USB cord.

Yes, you can get a 3.5mm to USB converter and it should work. However, be sure you get one that explicitly lets you record with it. Most of the converters you will find will be audio-out only.

For example, this would probably work.

I'd imagine you could get USB mic too, or maybe blue-tooth. A lot of new laptops support blue-tooth.

Yes, any USB Sound Card should do what you need.
Just do not expect top end sound quality...
