Installing network driver on a notebook

Hi.

i bought Asus notebook with pre-installed windows xp home edition.

i made recovery cd but did not back up nic drivers. i downloaded realtek nic drivers on another pc and tried to install them on my Asus: intuitively, i went to folder named "EXE" and double clicked "Setup" icon (install shield setup launcher. it kinda loaded somethin, but then quited and nothing happened afterwards. I rebooted my notebook but was still unable to connect. when i type ipconfig /all in cmd, i only get "windows ip configuration".

later i found out that its not possible to install generic nic drivers on notebooks with preinstalled windows.

am i lost then?

than you anyway
