Screen resolution trouble

I bought a Hannspree 28" LCD which supports 1920 X 1200 resolution. I connected my laptop that runs Vista to it. I am unable to get a resolution higher than 1024 X 768 for the LCD display.

The laptop has ATI Mobility Radeon x1400. I have tried to get the latest Catalyst drivers, etc. and there is no drivers for the LCD and the manufacturer says I can use the generic driver.

At this stage the monitor is quite useless if I cant get a better resolution out of it. I am connecting via 4-pin s-video cable. Any ideas on what I can do.

I think it's the cable (or actually the standard behind s-video)

It just can't support very high resolutions. If possible use digital connection, HDMI or DVI.
