I'm using a old computer to setup downstairs as my dedicated movie viewer.

The old computer has a 305w power supply that came with the computer. It's a dell btw.

I installed a Nvidia 9500gt into it so that it would have a DVI port to connect to the TV.

If I'm only using the video card for movie watching, would the 305watt powersupply be sufficient? The 9500gt box says I need a 350w.

I have been using it without any issues yet. Should I be concerned?

Dell PSUs are actually pretty good. The video card makers use inflated recommended power ratings to compensate for crappy power supplies what have inflated power claims.

A 9500gt will be fine on a 305w dell PSU, especially so if you are not doing any 3d gaming.

It will work for sure if the current is good enough on the lines which 95% of the time it is. The box will say it needs a 350, but that's at peak levels.

You may experience BSOD/lockups during demanding applications if the cannot reach that power level but chances are you're fine.

I got an 9800 in my HTPC with a 350 PSU, that works just fine.

Just keep the box intact in case you have lots of issues. Good luck man!
