I have the following

MSI 790FX-GD70
Phenom II X4 Black Edition 965, 3400 MHz (17 x 200)
2x Kingston DDR3-1333 DDR3 rated 1.65
Sapphire 5850
W7 64bit
VISA 3945789383kidding :p

All of my drivers and have been updated including my BIOS

My PC runs ok with regular use but I hear clicks when I run demanding games. I installed HD 4870 to see if it was the video card, it ran fine. But my 5850 ran super without clicks on another computer with lower specs. I know my motherboard is supposed to have rams rated at 1.5v, so I though maybe this would fix it?

I also tried running TRIXX but my monitor turns black and one of my fan goes at 100%, I hear some clicking noise as soon as I run it. Same thing happened when I started playing games at max settings. I have been using this computer with adobe apps and to browse the net, no problem.

And when I try to allow my mobo to auto overclock, nothing is displayed on my monitor during and after boot. So I am guessing it's a compatibility issue with the rams and the mobo. What do you think?

your motherboards default voltage should be 1.8v for the ram. its the intel i5/i7 thats rated for 1.5-1.65v. i wouldnt change the voltage from where its currently at if its stable

likely, your clicking sound is coming from your power supply being under a higher load with the 5850 installed. power draw from a 5850 is higher under load than a 48xx card. also, ive noticed some older corsair units had an issue with clicking under load (requiring an RMA to fix the issue)

what PSU are you using to power that rig?

side note - bump your ram voltage up to 1.8v anyway. i really dont think it has anything to do with the clicking..but that MIGHT help with the black screens..however, the black screen is likely caused by a power shortage from your PSU.

test your ram at its current voltage with memtest 86+. its free and easy to use. let it run for an hour or two, and if it comes up with no errors at current 1.65v then id leave it alone and blame the PSU. if it detects ram errors..bump voltage up to 1.8 and re-run the test for another couple hours. if errors persist..it may be time to consider a new PSU for that nice rig you have

you could try RMAing that psu and see what the results are..but i never cared for that brand. if your budget allows..a nice 650w corsair/antec would do quite nicely. its not your ram, leave it at 1.65v. with the 5850 installed try and run whatever program caused the ticking noise and put your ear up to the psu. my moneys on that as the culprit of the noise and crashes
