If I use "format a", will it delete all files on the hard drive?

If you format a: it will erase all the files on the disk that is mounted at a:.
If your harddisk is mounted at c: and you are formatting another disc that is mounted at a:, a: will be erased but c will be fine.

if harddisk is write protected. then how could we do with the file?
