I know that I shouldn’t pay too much attention to the Windows Experience Index but could someone explain a precipitous drop in my CPU score? With mu first install of windows 7, I had a CPU score of 4.9. The PC was working well; light on its feet. Subsequently, I played (too much)trying different utilities, registry fixes, playing with Windows Services to see if I could increase my score. After virtually no improvement, I went back and did a CLEAN install (just for the hell of it) but was surprised to see my WEI drop to 3.3!
Question is, what could I have possibly have done (remember, clean install) that would LOWER my WEI score? I’m guessing that after my first Win 7 try, I did the usual things to optimize like turn off Aero themes, unused sounds, fonts, visual effects which may have had some impact. I’ve tried these tweaks but still the low score. Finally, I have noticed on my display cards settings that the Dedicated Video memory is 256MB (ATI FireGL Workstation card) but the Total Graphics memory is 1503MB and the Shared System memory is 1247MB. Could this be sucking speed away from the CPU and should it be adjusted.
Also, some profilers seem to show 1 processor even though the Device manage shows 2. Below is some information about my setup. I’m in deeper than my pay grade folks. (Hey, I’m a graphic designer!) Please, any help would be great. This is driving me NUTS!.
