Motherboard making scratching noises

I just built a new system with an Asus P6X58D motherboard. Everything's going OK so far except for scratching noises (sounds like a combination of radio static, a scratchy record, and a HDD spinning). The noises occur mostly at startup and also whenever the system is active. It seems to be coming from a part of the motherboard labeled "buzzer". Anything I can do about this?

Seems like sort of a newb question.

  1. Wow, that is kinda odd. The "buzzer" is the speaker on the mobo that the bios uses to let you know if somethings up. Is the speaker removable, or is it directly on the motherboard? Go ahead and try flashing the bios as well and see if that helps.
  2. are you sure its not the hdd? disconnect it and turn it on and see if it still does it? and what are the specs?
  3. If it were his hard drive, I seriously doubt his computer would even bother booting up.
